A beautiful and unusual vintage Chinese beaded mat purchased directly from a jade factory in Beijing, China, in 2004 during our family\'s trip to China.
The mat features hundreds of small pale green, cream, and yellow stone beads individually woven into a flexible mesh panel, mounted on a rich blue textile backing with decorative edging.
The yellow bead design incorporates the traditional Chinese characters 福寿 (Fú Shòu).
福 (Fú) represents blessing, good fortune, happiness, or prosperity.
寿 (Shòu) represents longevity and long life.
Together, 福寿 expresses the traditional wish for good fortune and longevity.
Original 2004 Provenance
This piece was purchased by our family at a jade factory in Beijing in 2004 and has remained in our personal collection since that trip.
When we purchased it, the factory presented it to us as a traditional medicinal/wellness item intended for migraine relief. That description is included as part of the item\'s original history and provenance. We are not making any medical or therapeutic claims about the mat, and no medical benefits are guaranteed.
The natural stone beads have varying shades of pale green, cream, and yellow, giving the piece a beautiful variation throughout the woven design.
The mat has not been professionally tested to determine the specific type or grade of jade/stone.
A very unusual piece of Chinese decorative and wellness history, especially for collectors interested in Chinese jade, traditional symbolism, Beijing souvenirs, Chinese folk wellness objects, or 福寿 longevity symbolism.
