This one tells you what he achieved.On the back of this 1985 Seiko Chronos, engraved in neat Japanese characters, is a commemoration of the Merit Badge award presented by the President of Japanese National Railways. In the final years of the old JNR, before the great railway was divided in 1987, a watch like this was how the organisation thanked the men who had kept Japan\'s trains running on the minute, year after year.Seiko chose the Chronos for the purpose, and it suits the story. The case is slim and plated in gold, the silver dial carries a soft sunburst, and slender gold batons mark the hours around a day-and-date window at three. There is no ornament beyond that, because a railwayman\'s watch did not need any.It wears on a black leather strap with a gold-tone buckle.
