A vintage Japanese jūbako from the 1980s, crafted in lacquered wood and in mint condition. The set is three stacking tiers with a matching lid, in high-gloss black lacquer with vivid vermilion red interiors. Raised gold decoration, applied in relief so you can feel every line, shows a flight of birds soaring over sweeping stylized waves, running continuously across the lid and down the sides when stacked. Jūbako, meaning "stacked boxes," are the traditional Japanese vessels for New Year osechi foods, and the stacked form symbolizes good fortune accumulating. Birds over waves is a classic auspicious motif of perseverance.
The assembled set measures approximately 5 × 5 × 5 inches. It is in mint vintage condition, appears unused, and has glossy, unmarked lacquer with no chips, scratches, or wear to the gold. As a vintage piece, it may show light signs of age from storage.
