Likely One of a Kind
Miss Chiquita, the brand’s banana lady mascot, is illustrated front and center in her red ruffled outfit and fruit basket hat, holding a bunch of Chiquita labeled bananas. Miss Chiquita (looks a lot like Carmen Miranda) was first drawn in 1944 by cartoonist Dik Browne, the creator and illustrator of Hägar the Horrible and the Hi and Lois comics.
The poster is broken into five instructional panels aimed at grocers and produce staff.
Storage Area covers preventing chilling injury and proper temperature range.
Handling covers preventing bruising and scarring during transport.
Inspection covers preventing overripening of fruit.
Ripening Color Stages shows a numbered chart of bananas from stage 1 (all green) through stage 7 (full yellow with sugar spotting).
Display covers arranging bananas to create maximum sales at the point of purchase.
Printed at the bottom is the trademark line stating Chiquita is a registered trademark of the United Brands Company.
United Brands owned the Chiquita name until its 1990 rebrand as Chiquita Brands International

1970, based on the United Brands Company trademark, the sticker on the banana and Miss Chiquita not yet being human. The banana sticker is circa 1963-1970, the UB logo was introduced in 1970.

Scattered small stains and spotting are visible across the front.
A faint scratch mark runs across one of the illustrated bananas.
Corners show soft wear consistent with age and handling.
