This vintage mid-century 3-footed ikebana crown-like container is strikingly versatile with its understated color and rough texture. The imprinted logo and marking 2068 belong to Yamasan. It is water-tight and gently used and well maintained afterwards, cleaned and stored without damage: no chipping, cracking, scratches or staining visible to the eye or felt by the hand. The outside rough, spewed lava appearance was applied by hand in the color and texture of the moriaged (moriage is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that uses raised, three-dimensional slip of liquid clay) to decorate that looks similar to cake frosting or lava with bits of clay an grit splatter and glaze indicative 1960 Yamasan container production The first six pictures were taken against a black felt background with workroom lighting pictures and pictures in between were taken in a camera tent (and accounts for the reflections from the two LED light strings overhead). Neither the empty Asahi nor Sapporo bottles are for sale, but to illustrate the size of the container. This is part of the extensive collection of ikebana containers from which only a few, more architecturally interesting have been selected by our children and their families to keep.
