For your consideration.

Vintage 1958 Oldsmobile Delco "Trans-Portable" Transistor Dash Radio

Up for sale is a highly collectible piece of automotive history: an original 1958 Oldsmobile "Trans-Portable" transistor radio. Manufactured by Delco Radio Corporation for General Motors, this innovative dual-purpose unit served as both an in-dash car radio and a slide-out portable receiver for picnics, beaches, or camping.

Rare One-Year-Only Design

This specific heavy-chrome, vertical-grille design was only produced for the 1958 model year. While General Motors offered slide-out portable radios in subsequent years, they completely redesigned the units to look like standard plastic pocket radios. The 1958 model is the absolute peak of "Rocket Age" chrome styling, making this one-year design the most highly sought-after variant for GM collectors and auto restorers alike.

Product Details & History

Year/Model: 1958 Oldsmobile Optional Equipment (One-Year-Only Style)

Features: Beautiful heavy chrome front bezel with "TRANS-PORTABLE" lettering, fold-down carrying handle, and original textured casing.

Condition, Functionality & Video

Tested & Playing Video:

This radio is in working functional order! I have a video of this exact radio powered up, picking up stations, and playing music. Please message me or check the listing video to hear the clear sound quality coming directly from its internal speaker!

Sound & Reception: It picks up local AM stations clearly, and the sound output is surprisingly strong for a vintage transistor unit.

Tuning Dial: Please note that while the radio successfully tunes and receives stations, the manual tuning dial needle does not slide properly back and forth when turning the knob. The dial indicator mechanism will require some minor adjustment or repair.

This is an excellent, highly authentic survivor of 1950s GM history. Please review all photos carefully, watch the playing video, and feel free to ask any questions before offerding!
