DESCRIPTION
Wonderful wooden circus train set by Grandad\'s Toy Shop of Thetford, Vermont, ca. early 1950s. Consists of an engine, tender, animal cage car, and four cutout figures of an elephant, zebra, camel and bear. Several paper labels read \"A / GRANDAD\'S / TOY /copyright 1953 BY GRANDAD\'S TOY SHOP / NORTH THETFORD, VT. USA.\" All hand painted. Wooden wheels. Working metal bell on the engine.
Grandad\'s Toy Shop was founded by Frank Tilton in 1949 Thetford, Vermont. The company operated only from 1949 to 1955, producing wooden toys including train cars, circus items, animal cutouts, etc. Some of their work is represented in Brooklyn Museum of New York.
CONDITION
Overall very good original condition for its age. Some surface wear to the paint. All complete and structurally intact (visible in the images). A FINE MID-20TH CENTURY VINTAGE CHILD\'S TOY SET.
