This listing is for a really cool piggyback that I picked up awhile back. I’ve never seen anything like this and have visited the islands many times! This piece of vintage Hawaiian memorabilia was distributed directly by the Bank of Hawaii as a mid-century promotional item based on my research. I’m not sure who the maker or designer was but these are RARE and hard to find!
It features a smiling hula girl / dancer seated with her arms crossed. The reverse side is embossed with “Bank of Hawaii Patent.” The coin slot is across the top of her folded arms, and she has a yellow flower in her hair too! It sits off center as its natural position but the bottom lays flat on a surface.
The original green felt remains attached to the bottom but it looks like it’s been pulled back at some point and now stuck in place with the folds (see pictures). This could easily be reset if you decide to put change inside.
This vintage bank appears to be made of terracotta clay, ceramic or other heavy material due to the weight. I cannot tell and didn’t want to pull back or remove the felt to check.

Height - 7.5 inches
Weight - 1.4 lbs.
** All paint or uneven graining on the surface is natural and true to its original design and construction. I didn’t see any cracks or paint chipping , but I circle where I identified any paint wear, scuffs, or surface marks. Please see pictures.
This is a wonderful addition for collectors of Hawaiian souvenirs, vintage banks, or mid-century décor.
**Note to buyer: I do not clean the items and keep them in “as-found” vintage condition to prevent any accidental damage. I will always point out any cosmetic damage in the pictures or item description, so please carefully review all provided photos.
