This is a vintage Hull Art Pottery creamer in the Bow-Knot pattern, model B-21-4, made at the Hull plant in Crooksville, Ohio. It is marked in raised letters on the base: \"U.S.A. Hull Art B-21-4.\" In Hull\'s numbering, \"B\" is the Bow-Knot line, \"21\" is the creamer, and \"4\" is its nominal height in inches.
The creamer has a softly lobed body in Hull\'s signature matte finish. It shades from sky blue at the rim down to cream and a turquoise-green foot. A molded pink ribbon bow ties at the handle and trails its streamers down the side. The body is decorated in relief with a pink flower with a yellow center, green leaves, and blue blossoms. The handle is a graceful open loop shading from blue to cream, and the rim sweeps up into a pointed spout.
Bow-Knot is one of the most sought-after of Hull\'s matte pastel lines. It was produced only in 1949 and 1950. The run ended abruptly when a flood and the fire that followed destroyed the Hull plant on June 19, 1950. When the factory reopened in 1952 as The Hull Pottery Company, it switched to new designs, and the matte floral lines of the 1940s, Bow-Knot among them, never came back. The creamer was part of a three-piece tea set with the B-20 teapot and B-22 sugar bowl.
Condition: Good vintage condition with no cracks noted. Please review the photos closely for the following: small dark specks and surface marks on the blue shoulder near the spout, light staining and discoloration inside the bowl, a small dark spot at the tip of the spout (glaze fleck), and typical grime on the unglazed foot ring. Hull\'s matte glazes pick up surface marks easily, and some may come off with gentle cleaning.
