Vintage 1940’s Navajo UITA21 Native Feather Sterling Silver Pin Brooch Goro.
This is an Antique piece created by Southwest Arts & Crafts, often associated with Ganscraft.
The base was likely formed from a silver ingot, cut into the shape of an eagle feather, and given a three-dimensional form through hammer work. A separate silver part was soldered on to create the feather shaft, and the plumage was carefully rendered using fine engraving and scratching techniques. Although the silverwork is rustic and simple, the piece reveals sophisticated craftsmanship through elements such as the exquisite curvature achieved by the hammering and the delicate texture of the feathers.
This is widely recognised as one of the first iterations of the feather motif in Navajo jewellery making it extremely collectable, this feather type inspired famous jewellery maker Goro Takahashi.
