Authentic and Tested Beautiful Art Deco (1920\'s) Women\'s Root Beer Bakelite Jabot Pin featuring two geometric , marbled Root Beer ends connected by a metal pin (gold plated?). Worn as a Collar, Sweater or Hat Pin.
The metal pin is almost certainly not solid gold and is highly likely to be gold-plated, brass, or gold-tone base metal.
On authentic 1920s–1930s costume jewelry like this Bakelite piece, solid gold was rarely used for the structural pin stem because it is too soft to function effectively as a functional, rigid pin. Instead, manufacturers utilized sturdier base metals—such as brass and finished them with a gold wash or gold plating to give them a refined look.
Note there are no tiny hallmarks or stamps (like \"14K\", \"GF\", or \"Rolled Gold\") on the metal stem.
Furthermore we did not note any greenish discoloration (verdigris) or silver-colored base metal peeking through where the plating has worn down. However, we still assume the Pin Stem is not solid gold but more likely gold plated.
