Complete vintage figural chess set featuring 32 highly detailed black and ivory-tone Asian court and warrior pieces, including mounted horsemen, armored soldiers, robed dignitaries and distinctive multi-tier pagoda-form rooks. The pieces are molded stone-resin/composition with a substantial carved-stone appearance and range to approximately 4 inches tall.
The set includes its large folding wooden chess board, approximately 16 inches square when open, with green-veined and pale stone-inlaid playing squares. The board opens to reveal fitted green-lined storage compartments designed specifically for the individual chess pieces.
A striking mid-century decorative set with excellent display presence, likely dating to approximately the 1960s–1970s. The figural design is generally associated with Chinese/Asian Imperial Court export chess sets of the period.
