Original vintage Dawson’s Beer & Ale lighted advertising sign from Dawson’s Brewery in New Bedford, Massachusetts, dating to approximately the 1950s.
The sign features the period slogan:
“Time Out for Dawson’s – Calorie Controlled – Beer • Ale”
The back still retains its original brewery property tag marked “Property of Dawson’s Brewery Inc., New Bedford, Mass.”
It measures approximately 25” wide x 14” tall and has a thick molded plastic advertising face mounted in its original metal cabinet.
The sign is working and lights up nicely. The red, white and blue graphics display well both illuminated and unlit.
Condition is good overall with normal wear from age and use.
There is some discoloration to the plastic, along with scattered surface scratches and areas of graphic/paint loss. There is also an approximately 3” crack along the top edge of the plastic face. Please see the photo. The crack sits in an area that is essentially hidden when the sign is displayed.
The plastic is quite thick and rigid, and the crack currently appears stable and does not seem to be under stress, but it is mentioned for accuracy.
The metal housing also shows normal vintage wear, including scratches, finish wear, discoloration and other signs of age and use.
Despite the wear, the sign still displays very nicely, especially when lit.
