Up for sale is a beautiful, all-original Vintage FADA Model 845 \"Cloud\" AM Tube Radio.
This post-war design icon features the highly recognizable asymmetrical \"cloud\" cabinet styling molded in polystyrene plastic. Originally sold as \"Alabaster,\" the plastic has aged beautifully over the last 80 years into a gorgeous, highly sought-after \"Butterscotch\" patina.
Cosmetic & Mechanical
Condition:Cabinet: Exceptional cosmetic condition. The polystyrene shell is completely free of the typical cracks, chips, deep scratches, or heat-warping often found on these vintage plastic models.
Controls & Dial: Both matching original swirled knobs are intact. The power switch clicks on firmly with a distinct tactile feel, and the tuning drive operates smoothly across the dial window. The tuning indicator/pointer is faintly visible at the top and bottom extremes under normal room light, which is standard for this original unlit edge-lit design.
Bottom Screws: Please note that two of the original chassis mounting screws on the bottom are missing (two remain). The internal chassis is still held completely secure and firmly in place.
Power Cord: The power cord and plug are in fantastic, clean, and flexible condition with absolutely no cracks, dry-rotting, or exposed wires.
Cleaning: The exterior case has been gently wiped down with a damp towel to remove surface dust. The radio has not been internally disassembled or cleaned to preserve its unmolested state for the next collector.
Rear Backing Cover & Labels:Includes the incredibly rare original fiberboard backing board housing the still wired built-in \"FADA-Scope\" loop antenna.
Both original factory paper labels are present, completely legible, and intact, showing the clear model identification and the original tube layout schematic diagram.
Electrical / Functionality Status:
This radio was plugged in briefly for a few seconds to verify the circuit connection. The dial backlight pilot lights successfully illuminated, but it was not left on long enough for the tubes to warm up and pull in audio. To protect the vintage internal components and avoid potential damage to the delicate vintage circuits, no further electrical testing was performed.
Due to its age and the nature of vintage tube electronics, this radio is being sold strictly As-Is for parts, repair, or restoration. It makes an absolutely stunning Art Deco display piece as it sits, or a perfect restoration candidate for a collector.
