The Schuco Elektro Amphibio (Model 5560) is a vintage 1960s West German battery-operated toy car, roughly 11 inches long, capable of operating on both land and water. Made primarily of tin and plastic, it features a removable roof, white-walled tires, and a propeller for water navigation.
Key features of the 5560 model include:
- Dual Functionality: Designed to drive into water and operate as a boat.
- Design & Material: Often found in red and beige (sometimes blue), featuring a tin body with plastic components.
- Dimensions: Approximately 28 cm (11 inches) in length.
- Control: Operates via a remote battery box, with some versions featuring a wire rod attached to the roof for steering.

To open the battery compartment of a Schuco Elektro Amphibio (Model 5560) car, you must unlock the roof/lid mechanism, which is often locked for transport.
Steps to Open the Battery Compartment:
- Locate the Spotlight: Find the center front spotlight on the hood of the car.
- Unlock the Lid: Turn this center front spotlight 180 degrees to unlock the roof lid.
- Lift the Front: Gently lift up the front of the lid.
- Remove the Lid: Pull the lid slightly forward while gently lifting it up and off the body.
Important Tips:
- Handle with Care: The front locking tab is delicate, so avoid forcing it to prevent breakage.
- Rear Attachment: The rear of the lid tucks into place and should be pulled out gently after the front is lifted.
