VINTAGE 1990s SPORTS MATRYOSHKA NESTING DOLLS • HAND-PAINTED IN UKRAINE • PRIVATE COLLECTION
This unusual vintage sports-themed Matryoshka nesting doll set comes from my personal collection dating back to the 1990s.
At that time, I was involved in the creation and production of STAN\'KA sports collectible figurines. Some of the artists associated with our work also created sports-themed Matryoshka nesting dolls and presented individual examples of their artwork to me.
These Matryoshka dolls were made and individually hand-painted in Ukraine. Each wooden figure was crafted and painted by hand, giving every set its own individual character. Small variations in colors, lines and details are natural characteristics of genuine handmade work.
The largest figure opens to reveal another figure inside, followed by progressively smaller figures in the traditional Matryoshka nesting style.
FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION
I kept these pieces in my personal collection for more than 30 years.
Years later, because of personal circumstances, I returned to the region and was able to recover my collection from Donetsk, Ukraine, an area profoundly affected by the ongoing war.
Despite the difficult circumstances and complicated journey, I personally brought the surviving pieces of my collection with me to the United States.
These pieces therefore carry not only the history of the artists who created them in Ukraine more than three decades ago, but also the story of a collection that survived for decades and made an extraordinary journey before reaching the United States.
I am now gradually offering selected pieces from this longtime personal collection to new owners and collectors.
This is an unusual combination of sports memorabilia, vintage hand-painted wooden art and traditional Matryoshka craftsmanship.
A wonderful collectible and display piece for a sports collection, office, fan room or memorabilia collection — and an unusual gift for a sports enthusiast or collector.
