USA Scott 294 (x2, pair) Pan-American fake invert stamps tied by June 11, 1901 Toledo, Ohio machine cancel on \'Eagle Stamp Company, Dealer in Postage Stamps For Collections, We buy Old Stamps Price List Free\' corner card advertising cover sent to George W Lenn (sic - Linn), Columbus, Ohio Pub. Columbus Phil. with same day receiver. The stamps pay the correct 2-cent rate for letter mail yet have been altered probably making this an illegal usage. The vignettes were excised out and rotated creating the inverted appearance. It is interesting to note that the stamps themselves were issued on May 1, 1901 so the inverted errors were discovered soon thereafter. George W. Linn is well known publisher in the world of philately. Quite a remarkable and scarce cover in its own right!
Sent 1901, opened roughly at right, mounting adhesions on reverse, some general wear & toning. Fair-Fine condition.
