This is a LARGE Middle Devonian trilobite specimen ofDrotops megalomanicus, from Djebel Issoumour in Morocco.Drotopsresembles a very large Phacops. The eyes have schizochroal lenses and the tubercules on the cephalon are pronounced.The specimen is 5.3 inches long (if straightened) and 3.0 inches wide. The matrix and trilobitemeasure5.0 inches long, 5.55 inches wide and 3.3 inches high. Schizochroal lenses are well-preserved in both eyes. The line across the cephalon is an ancient healed fracture
The trilobite has been repaired /restored on the left thoracic spines and the tips are missing. In the trilobite-collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
