This I Believe Edward R. Murrow 1954 1st Ed Inscribed to Alfred M. Landon

This I Believe was inspired by Edward R. Murrow\'s celebrated CBS radio series, bringing together one hundred personal statements from political leaders, writers, scientists, artists, and public figures reflecting on the principles that shaped their lives. Published by Simon and Schuster in 1954, the first edition became one of the defining collections of mid-century American thought.
This copy is an exceptional association copy, personally inscribed to Alfred M. Landon, former Governor of Kansas and the 1936 Republican presidential nominee, whose essay appears in the collection on page 80. The presentation inscription reads:
\"To Alfred M. Landon — Co-author! — with great thanks for your outstanding contribution. Ward Wheelock \'54\"
The inscription is signed by Ward Wheelock, who wrote the preface to the volume and was the creator and driving force behind the This I Believe project. By addressing Landon as \"Co-author,\" Wheelock acknowledged Landon\'s participation in the project while creating a direct connection between the founder of the series and one of its distinguished contributors. Copies with this level of documented association are seldom encountered.
Near Fine condition. The original buckram binding is exceptionally well preserved with clean boards, sharp corners, and bright spine lettering. The blue topstained page edges remain vibrant. The binding is tight, and the interior pages appear little used. No obvious signs of handling. Inscription penned on front free page. The original dust jacket is clean and well preserved in a Brodart protective cover.
