Stunning Antique Etched Glass Vase with Sterling Silver Rim & Pedestal Base Vase:
$575.00

Dating to circa 1915, this elegant antique vase is a striking marriage of finely etched glass and substantial sterling silver, capturing the refined decorative taste of the early 20th century. The tall, graceful glass body flares outward toward the rim and is beautifully embellished with an intricate etched floral and foliate pattern. Delicate blossoms, leafy branches, swags, and scrolling elements cascade across the clear glass, creating a light and almost lace-like appearance. Geometric borders incorporating starburst motifs, linear bands, and classical Greek key-inspired elements provide a handsome architectural contrast to the softer botanical decoration. The combination gives the vase a sophisticated Edwardian-to-early Art Deco transitional character, while still drawing heavily on the classical and neoclassical ornament favored during the period.Adding considerably to its presence is the extensive use of sterling silver. The upper edge is finished with a slender sterling silver rim, while the lower portion rests upon a large, beautifully proportioned sterling silver pedestal base. The base is particularly impressive, with a broad circular foot bordered by a finely detailed laurel-leaf pattern, echoed by decorative silverwork immediately beneath the glass. The polished silver provides a wonderful contrast against the delicately frosted decoration of the crystal. Both silver components are marked Sterling, confirming the precious-metal content. A period monogram on the foot adds another layer of history and character, suggesting this was originally a treasured personal or presentation piece.Overall measurements: approximately 10.25 inches high × 5.25 inches wide × 5.25 inches deep. Total weight is approximately 1 pound 2 ounces. Good antique condition, there are a couple of indents to the silver. One small bubble imperfection that looks like a chip to the upper body. Light surface wear. Please review the photos for further condition assessment. At over ten inches tall and weighing more than a pound, it has a substantial presence while retaining an elegant silhouette. Displayed empty, it functions beautifully as a decorative object in its own right, while its flared form is equally well suited to a bouquet of flowers.A particularly handsome piece for a collection of antique sterling silver, etched glass, Edwardian decorative arts, or elegant turn-of-the-century tableware.Check out our other antique listings.
