Rare and beautiful cabbage / lettuce leaf plates - tin glazed majolica (or maiolica) made in Italy
Marked with an incised Star over M, these come from the Napoli region of Italy. They likely date to the 1860s / 1870s.
They measure about 5-3/4” and of course they are not perfectly symmetrical as they are each hand made. These always get a bit rough around the edges as well and may include what looks like small rim chips ( for the most part this is just how they are made) and unglazed areas. We see no cracks. Gorgeous green color and amazing detail. There are a few modern ceramicists that try to imitate the gorgeous detail on these and charge a lot more than we are asking here for their efforts.
