Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon 47mm f5.6 XL with custom view camera For Sale

One of a kind Super-Wide View Camera After buying the remarkable Schneider 47mm Super Angulon XL lens, I discovered (because of the very short focal distance) it barely functioned on my regular field camera, so I built this camera for it. Weighing just over 2.5 pounds total, it made the perfect large format camera to carry into the landscape. The wide-angle view is exceptional for dramatic images and it is ready to shoot right out of the bag--no unfolding, adjusting and fiddling with knobs. I do hate selling this camera, but I have neglected it for too long, and I would love for someone to make good use of it.

Features:

Lens: Schneider has been making a 47mm/5.6 Super Angulon since 1966 but the early versions were designed to only cover 6 x 9 cm roll film. In the in the mid 1990s the XL version was introduced which easily covers 4X5, making it the widest lens available for that format (roughly equivalent to14mm on full-frame, 35mm format). This lens is also beautifully sharp and distortion-free—a requirement for architectural photographers.

The focus mount: Schneider made a focus helicoid designed for this lens, but when I built this camera (around 2005), a new one was crazy expensive and impossible to find used. However, I was able to find a reasonably priced Rodenstock focus mount made for a 55mm lens. This worked perfectly— allowing the 47mm Super Angulon to focus from infinity, down to 2 feet. The only small issue is the focus scale, marked for a 55mm lens, is not accurate for the 47mm—especially closer than 8 ft. Since I always used the ground glass to compose and focus, this was never an issue for me. With this lens' extreme depth of field, the scale is accurate enough for zone focusing.

The body: The lens mount is joined to the camera body using a metal lens board. The camera body is made of some nice looking wood I had on hand (possibly walnut). It is mitered with splines for looks and extra strength, it is stained and sealed with polyurethane on the outside, and painted flat black on the inside. On the bottom is a standard 1/4-20 threaded insert for tripod mounting and on the top, I added an accessory shoe for a viewfinder (or flash?). I also added a strap made of webbing to make the camera easier to handle.

The Back: The camera has Graflok style back, meaning you can slide out the ground glass assembly and attach a Graflex-style roll film holder. This back does have a Fresnel focusing screen.

Condition:I The lens is in mint condition (Iam the original owner). It haszero issues with the glass or the shutter. The focus mount is also in perfect condition. It operates very smoothly. The camera body has some blemishes but overall looks great. The film back is a little rough. There are blemishes on some of the chrome parts, and a little missing paint.

Included:original front and rear push-on lens caps, a very nice Minolta locking cable release, a fitted dark cloth, and a bag made by M-Rock, that fits the camera with extra room for 7-8 film holders.
