Emperor Caracalla (AD 198–217)
This ancient Roman bronze As was struck during the reign of Emperor Caracalla, one of the most influential rulers of the Severan Dynasty. Caracalla is best known for issuing the Constitutio Antoniniana in AD 212, extending Roman citizenship to nearly all free inhabitants of the Empire. His reign also saw extensive military campaigns and the construction of the famous Baths of Caracalla, among the largest and most impressive public bath complexes of ancient Rome.
The obverse features a laureate portrait of Caracalla, while the reverse depicts a standing female personification with S C (Senatus Consulto), indicating the bronze coinage was struck under the authority of the Roman Senate.
