Rolex GMT-Master ref. 16700 “Pepsi,” X-serial, circa 1991.
Classic 40mm stainless steel GMT-Master with black SWISS–T<25 tritium dial, sapphire crystal, automatic Rolex caliber 3175, quickset date and the traditional linked GMT hand.
The watch is fitted to a Rolex 78360 Oyster bracelet with 501B end links.
It was recently serviced by a local independent watchmaker (he added that caseback sticker when he finished) and is running properly. Also included is an older Rolex International Service Guarantee Card dated April 24, 2013, matching the watch’s reference and serial number and a factory service pouch and booklet documenting that previous Rolex factory service history.
The watch as you see it in the photos is fitted with a high quality new aftermarket red/blue Pepsi bezel insert. Importantly, the authentic, genuine Rolex Pepsi insert is included and will be installed on the watch before I ship it to the Authenticator!! The beautiful genuine Rolex insert has significant natural fading as shown in the photos. It looks awesome.
You can easily put that bright new aftermarket insert back in the watch, or wear it with the faded old one. Your choice! Both look awesome.
Cosmetically, the watch presents beautifully for its age with very few normal light scratches and wear consistent with a vintage sports Rolex case.
The untouched vintage tritium dial has some spotting and waviness on the lacquer finish, but you can really only see that in macro photos or under a loupe. You can’t see it when it’s on your wrist, and it’s just normal vintage patina anyway. I couldn’t even get a good photo of the patina, it’s so hard to see.
The original oyster bracelet shows age-related wear and stretch. Stretch and wear is normal on a 1990 watch, but please review all photos carefully for condition.
