The Abortion : An Historical Romance 1966 was Brautigan’s fourthnovel and was first published in the States by Simon & Schuster. It was thesixth of the series of ten Brautigan books which were issued as British firstedition hardbacks by Jonathan Cape between 1970 and 1978, in lovely brightlycoloured dust wrappers.
Aneccentric, towering figure known for his signature long hair, droopy moustache,and whimsical, childlike worldview, Richard Brautigan handed out poetry on thestreets of San Francisco before skyrocketing to fame as a 1960s countercultureicon.
