A Confederate General from Big Sur was Brautigan’s debut novel andwas first published in the States by Grove Press. It was the third of theseries of ten Brautigan books which were issued as British first editionhardbacks by Jonathan Cape between 1970 and 1978, in lovely brightly coloureddust wrappers.
An eccentric, towering figure known for his signature long hair, droopymoustache, and whimsical, childlike worldview, Richard Brautigan handed outpoetry on the streets of San Francisco before skyrocketing to fame as a 1960scounterculture icon.
