Here is a beautiful 1969 LordMatic in outstanding original condition. The LordMatic occupied a premium place in the Seiko lineup, standing above the more mundane Sportsmatic and Seikomatic lines and just below the famed King Seiko. It shares its 5600 series movement with the King Seiko 56.
This is an unusual reference, I have never seen another one in person with this case/dial combination.
This watch was made in March of 1969, made for and sold into the Japan Home Market. I imported this one from Japan last month.
This one features an interesting, slim, and flat top case with a narrow fluted bezel. The case is all stainless steel and in original, unpolished condition. It shows only very light wear, the usual light scratches and nicks. Sanding marks are still clear on the upper surfaces of the case. The case back is in excellent condition, mostly scratch free and showing only minimal wear.

The watch came with an acrylic crystal, I believe this one to be original. There are no chips, cracks, or internal crazing. The crystal is excellent.
The dial is a bright blue metallic with a thin vertical lines motif linking the upper and lower hour indexes. It is a visually stunning piece. Under magnification, the top coat surface is superb with no delamination noted. Indexes, logos and hands are bright and shiny, with no trace of surface oxidation.
The single flaw on the dial is a missing frame around the day/date window. If I didn\'t know it was supposed to be there, you wouldn\'t even notice. I\'m going to rate the dial 8/10 as is, with the frame replaced this would easily become a 9+/10.
The watch is powered by the excellent Seiko 5606 caliber. This is a high precision, yet robust high grade automatic movement
Having 23 ruby jewels, rotor self winding, day/date complication and Diashock shock protection. It is running well and keeping good time.*
Importantly, the quick set functions for day and date are working properly on this watch. This is a very common failure point on 5600 series movements, there is a plastic Star gear in the quick set mechanism that is prone to breakage. Please be certain to never attempt to adjust the day or date on this watch (ideally on any calendar watch) between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. on the dial, while the automatic date change is engaged.
This unique watch comes on a new, hybrid sailcloth upper / rubber back strap that is both durable and comfortable.
*As with any vintage watch with an unknown service history a clean oil adjust service by a competent watchmaker is recommended to ensure good performance for years to come.
