RARE ANTIQUE INLAID MIRROR – LARGE ARCHITECTURAL VICTORIAN / EDWARDIAN STATEMENT PIECE
A spectacular and highly decorative antique wall / overmantel mirror of impressive architectural form, dating from around the late Victorian to Edwardian period.
This is a genuinely unusual statement piece, combining multiple bevelled mirror plates with beautifully aged dark timber, turned spindle galleries, projecting display shelves, decorative finials and intricate contrasting inlaid decoration.
The upper arched crest is particularly striking, featuring symmetrical figural and scrolling floral inlay surrounding a carved central rosette. Further inlaid decoration continues across the shaped side panels, giving the piece an exceptionally rich and distinctive appearance.
The design is almost architectural in its construction, with multiple levels, columns, galleries and small display shelves surrounding the large central mirror.
The original aged character has been retained throughout. The timber displays a wonderful deep patina, while the mirror plates show attractive age-related foxing and spotting consistent with an antique piece.
The reverse is equally impressive from a historical perspective, showing substantial traditional timber construction and the numerous individual mirror sections.
A superb decorative antique for a grand hallway, drawing room, dining room, boutique hotel, period property, restaurant or interior design project.
