Then another vintage Rolex beauty you don’t see every day. Known for solid gold watches like the Day-Date, Rolex released a few gold capped variants decades back. This 1960s Air King 5506 complete with gold plated bracelet gives you all of that gold look at less than the cost of a stainless Datejust. These don’t pop up often and it’s a whole vibe!
YEAR: Late 1964/early 1965
DIAL: Completing the gold on gold look is this sweet gold dial. About as clean as vintage comes including the full tritium plots, just a gorgeous example.
CASE: 34MM (actually 34.5MM and wears larger due to the oyster case) gold capped case appears unpolished with sharp lines throughout. Has wear of course given the age, most notable on the non-crown side, but still looks fantastic and just great to find untouched, photographed on the 6.6 inch wrist.
MOVEMENT: Rolex’s iconic automatic workhorse, this is a very early hacking variant that was serviced about 2 years ago so running and setting perfectly and keeping great time.
BRACELET: Rare to find these on original gold plated bracelet, this one is stamped 72 so a few years newer but period correct reference 7835 with 357 end links. Plating loss throughout of course but mostly on the underside, so all in presents beautifully and fits up to app 6.8 inches.
