political Americana and Vermont art pottery
history: an original 1960 Richard Nixon & Henry
Cabot Lodge Jr. presidential campaign dish.
This isn't your standard mass-produced
campaign "trinket." This stoneware piece was
produced by the renowned Bennington Potters
in Vermont, featuring a relief-carved GOP
elephant and the famous 1960 slogan,
"Experience Counts."
Manufacturer: Bennington Potters (Bennington,
VT)
Designer: David Gil (marked with the desirable
BPDW24 mold number)
Dimensions: Approximately 6.5" x 4.5"
Design: Features a stylized, Mid-Century Modern
relief of the Republican elephant and "Nixon
Lodge" typography.
Markings: Fully stamped on the reverse with
the iconic Bennington Potters "fork" logo and
the BPDW24 catalog mark.
Excellent vintage condition. The glaze is crisp
and retains its original matte luster. There are
no chips, cracks, or repairs. The underside
shows minimal shelf wear, consistent with a well-
preserved collector’s piece.
Items from the 1960 Nixon-Kennedy race are
highly sought after, but ceramic commissions
from a prestige studio like Bennington Potters
are far scarcer than tin buttons or paper posters.
This was likely a limited-run item for high-level
donors or regional events in the Northeast.
This is a "cross-over" collectible, perfect for the
