RARE 1907 RMS LUSITANIA POSTCARD – PRE-MAIDEN VOYAGE TRIALS WITH AMAZING FIRSTHAND TOUR MESSAGE
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, historically significant vintage postcard of the legendary Cunard liner RMS Lusitania. While many Lusitania postcards date from her active service or post-sinking era, this specific piece captures the ship at the absolute dawn of her story. It features a crisp, preserved postmark from Greenock, Scotland, dated July 5, 1907—just three weeks before her official Clyde sea trials began, and two months before her historic maiden voyage.
Fascinating Firsthand Ocean Liner Content: The card was mailed to a Miss J.H. Dobbie in Sunderland (a famous shipbuilding town) by a sender who had just toured the brand-new vessel. The handwritten message reads: "I have seen through this large steamer. It is fitted up beautifully regardless of expense..."
Condition Details: Front: Vibrant Edwardian color illustration showing the ship at sea with full technical specs listed along the bottom margin.
Minimal edge wear.
Back: Features a clean, legible Greenock circular date stamp (2:40 PM, JY 5, 07) and a green King Edward VII halfpenny stamp. The card is physically sound with no major creases, tears, or heavy staining. This is a premier investment-grade piece of maritime ephemera for serious Cunard, Titanic, or Edwardian steamship collectors.
Shipping: Will be shipped securely in a crystal-clear archival sleeve and a rigid cardboard mailer to ensure it arrives in pristine condition. Tracking included.
