Vintage Unisys IRT 2050 Keyboard – Original USPS Postsl Service Terminal Peripheral Lockheed Martin
This is an original Unisys IRT 2050 keyboard, a specialized input device produced for use with U.S. Post Office / USPS Integrated Retail Terminal (IRT) systems. These terminals were deployed nationwide from the late 1980s through the 1990s and represented a major modernization of postal retail operations, handling postage calculation, international shipping, money orders, and other counter services. The IRT 2050 was purpose-built for postal clerks. The oversized, color-coded key layout is designed around postal workflows rather than typing, with dedicated keys for services such as international mail, parcel classes, weight entry, surcharge handling, money orders, philatelic services, and daily accounting functions. This functional, almost industrial design makes the keyboard immediately recognizable and highly distinctive.
The keyboard shown here retains its original Unisys branding, coiled connector cable, and factory labeling, and it is housed in its original Unisys shipping box with the printed “Instructions for Attaching the IRT Replacement Keyboard” sheet included. The rear identification plate confirms Unisys Corporation, model IRT2050KBD, manufactured in Taiwan, R.O.C.,
Historically, these keyboards were part of the same IRT platform documented in U.S. military and government facilities, including installations referenced in Department of Defense imagery showing Unisys postal terminals in active service, as Lockheed Martin had purchased assets of Unisys. Enthusiast and archival discussions within the mechanical keyboard and vintage computing communities further identify the IRT 2050 as a non-consumer, government-issue device, rarely encountered outside surplus or decommissioned inventories.

Keyboard is sold untested. All keys click down except for one; “WGT ENTRY” which gets stuck when pressed down. I’m guessing it needs a spring. Keyboard was found with styrofoam stuck to parts of the cable. Was successfully cleaned, but there’s a chance you may discover tiny bits of residue. But looked clean
