Napoleon Bonaparte served as Premier Consul of France for five years, from November 1799 to May 1804. Initially appointed for a ten-year term under the Constitution of the Year VIII, he was proclaimed First Consul for Life in 1802 following a plebiscite and the Peace of Amiens. He held this position until he abolished the Consulate and declared himself Emperor of the French in 1804.
These specific 5 Francs coins with Napoleon as Premier Consul were minted only for 2 years: Constitution of the Year 11 (1802) and 12 (1803). The coins minted in Lyon (\"D\" mint mark) are one of the lowest mintage of this series. I\'ve included a screenshot of the Numista page, showing the mintage values.
Coins with Napoleon as Premier Consul are very rare, as most Napoleonic coins date to the period after he anointed himself French Emperor. Please review the pics to assess the condition of the coin. The obverse is very good condition, the reverse has some wear.
