RARE 17 SIGNED NFL Football Team Letters/Documents 1980 Owners, Coaches, Players For Sale

Please READ the entire description and look at all of the pictures before offerding. I try and highlight every detail in my sale, but please do not offer if you have any reservations. The black boxes on the letters are digital to cover the name and address of the person they were sent to.

This sale is for a true piece of Americana and a snapshot of time in 1980 when application responses were typed on a typewriter, signed and mailed to an applicant. Up for sale is "rejection" letters for employment to a total of 16 NFL teams (17 letters as there are 2 from the Cleveland Browns detailed below) across the country in 1980. The envelopes, letterhead and responses would look great framed and possibly hung in a man cave or sports bar type setting!

These were acquired at an estate sale and are truly a unique piece of history in my opinion when you take into consideration that this person applied to so many teams and also when you look at the signatures on these letters. The letters themselves are in EXCELLENT condition! The envelopes for the most part are also in excellent condition but there are some rips/tears in some of them near the top. I took pictures of the envelopes and every single letter addressed to the original applicant. The signatures on each letter is the title or position held by that person AT THE TIME IN 1980. There are some very famous football names as you have former players, coaches, general managers, vice presidents, owners, etc. Many have advanced with their team and some have passed away unfortunately.

• Buffalo Bills - Signed by Chuck Knox - just signed "Chuck" (Vice President - Head Coach)
• Pittsburgh Steelers - Signed by Art Rooney II
• Miami Dolphins - Signed by Joe Michael (J.M.) Robbie (Executive Vice President and General Manager)
• St. Louis (Football) Cardinals - Signed by Joe Sullivan (Vice President - Operations)
• Denver Broncos - Signed by Fred Gehrke (Vice President/General Manager)
• New York (Football) Giants - Signed by George B. Young, just signed "George" (General Manager)
• Green Bay Packers - Signed by Bob Harlan (Corporate General Manager)
• Houston Oilers - Signed by A.P. (Pat) Peppler (Assistant General Manager)
• The (Washington) Redskins - Signed by Joel Margolis (Assistant General Manager)
• Chicago Bears - Signed by Rudolph P. Custer (Business Manager)
• Los Angeles Rams - Signed by Jack Teele (Vice President, Administration)
• Seattle Seahawks - Signed by Mark Duncan (Assistant General Manager)
• The Cleveland Browns - Signed by Dennis J. Lynch (Director of Operations)
• The Cleveland Browns - Signed by Chuck Cusick (Equipment Manager)
• Oakland Raiders - Signed by Al LoCasale (Executive Assistant)

Some things to point out about these letters besides how interesting they are and the array of famous names in football that have signed them is the following:

• There are 2 letters from the Cleveland Browns with one of the letters from Dennis Lynch going into detail that he was also a graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University)
• Some of the names of the football teams do not exist anymore or have switched cities (i.e. Houston Oilers, St, Louis Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, The Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders).
• There may be some older logos but the Washington Redskins has the old logo on the letterhead as well as the envelope.
• The Miami Dolphins have two envelopes (a smaller one and a larger one), but there is only one letter
• The Dallas Cowboys envelope is ripped down the middle vertically but the insignia on the envelope and letter are in excellent condition.
• All of the letter-head for each team is true artwork in my opinion with some of the logos being embossed.
