Antique RPPC – 115 Gross Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Real photo postcard hand-lettered in ink "115 Gross Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania." A three-story brick building with stacked front porches, a stone-faced ground floor, and an awning over the entrance stands above a set of concrete steps. A woman in a long dark coat and hat stands on the sidewalk in front, and utility poles line the street. Gross Street runs along the edge of Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood and is named for Dr. Augustus H. Gross, who once owned much of the surrounding land.
Posted from Pittsburgh's East Liberty station in March 1913 with a 2-cent red Washington stamp and addressed to Copenhagen, Denmark. The sender writes: "Dear Inga: I know this will look familiar to you. We were at Mannings last evening and all asked for you. I met the two students who room there and heard all the library news… The money order came to-day. Thank you dear. You did not need to send it. Lots of love from Alice + Cyril." A note along the side adds "Grandma is in the front."
