Early 1930s Penn reel with the first generation marking, Penn Reel, Made by Fishing Tackle Mfg. Co., Phila. Pa., on the side plate, from the company's earliest years before the Penn Fishing Tackle name appeared. Small pillar frame conventional reel with open cross bar spool, single arm crank with a knurled cylinder grip, click and drag knobs on the side plate, and a stamped foot. About 3 inches wide and 2.5 inches in diameter. No model number found; likely one of Penn's small early freshwater and bay models.
Condition: as found, with heavy surface rust and oxidation on the frame, pillars, spool, and side plates, and grime in the crevices. The spool turns; click and drag not tested. No line. A parts, restoration, or shelf display reel for the early Penn collector. Sold as pictured.
