A pair of French brass gate post finials, probably early to mid 19th century now mounted on clear Lucite display bases. Each is crowned by a pronounced fleur-de-lis formed from intersecting shaped elements, creating a sculptural ornament intended to be appreciated from several directions. Their elongated proportions and heraldic decoration give the pair a distinctly architectural presence.
Beneath each crest, substantial brass strips curl outward into open spiral scrolls arranged around a central upright. Rounded fasteners and visible screw heads articulate the assembled construction, while cylindrical shafts, projecting collars, and concentric molded foot sections establish a strong vertical rhythm. The pierced fleur-de-lis and spaces between the scrolls balance the solidity of the lower stems, producing changing silhouettes when viewed from different angles.
The brass surfaces display a deep brown patina with warmer golden tones across the raised details. Later square Lucite mounts support the finials as freestanding decorative objects, allowing their rounded lower sections and intricate metalwork to remain fully visible.
