Pair of vintage decorative iron architectural panels with stylized rose, scroll, and geometric motifs. I purchased these at an antique market in Aix-en-Provence, France, in 1997 and brought them back to the United States.
The panels appear to be fabricated from iron or steel using shaped, textured, and welded/assembled elements rather than cast construction. The design has strong Art Nouveau influence, with stylized roses and scrolling foliage above an elongated vase or urn motif, framed by flowing curved lines and geometric elements.
Each panel measures approximately 39.5\" high × 13\" wide. Combined weight is approximately 38 lb.
The pair is closely matched but not absolutely identical in surface wear and oxidation. They retain an old pale painted finish with widespread rust, paint loss, surface oxidation, scratches, and age-related wear throughout, as shown in the photos. I have not cleaned, stripped, repainted, or restored them.
No maker’s mark or foundry mark has been located. Exact age and original architectural application are unknown. They may have originally been used as decorative architectural grilles, railing inserts, gate panels, or similar ornamental ironwork, but I cannot confirm their original installation.
