Pair of Antique Art Nouveau Marquetry Furniture Panels, c. 1895–1910
Beautiful matched pair of antique Art Nouveau marquetry panels, each featuring an elaborate stylized floral composition worked in contrasting wood veneers.
The designs incorporate the sweeping organic “whiplash” curves characteristic of the Art Nouveau period, with stylized flowers, foliage and geometric accents executed in green-toned, reddish, golden and dark veneers against a richly figured wood ground.
Close examination clearly shows the individual veneer pieces and differing grain directions, confirming that the decoration is genuine wood marquetry/inlay rather than a printed or painted design. Fine incised details are used in conjunction with the larger inlaid elements.
The matching format and proportions strongly suggest that these were originally paired furniture panels, likely incorporated into the doors of a cabinet, sideboard, wardrobe or similar piece of Art Nouveau furniture. At some later date the panels were removed and preserved as decorative artworks.
Based upon their design, materials and construction, we believe the panels date to approximately 1895–1910 and are of Continental European origin. Their precise maker and country of manufacture are unknown. Stylistically, the designs relate to the French/Belgian Art Nouveau and German/Austrian Jugendstil traditions of the period.
Both panels were subsequently professionally custom framed for wall display. The later silver-tone frames are not represented as original to the panels. The framing bears a label from Dramatika Custom Framing, Houston, Texas.

- Visible marquetry panel/image: approximately 14\" × 11\"
Condition: Antique condition with expected age-related surface wear, scratches, finish variation and minor imperfections. The marquetry remains attractive and presents very well. The frames show some wear consistent with use. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
An especially attractive matched pair of surviving Art Nouveau furniture panels, preserved and framed for display. Their symmetrical format makes them particularly effective displayed together.
