Description
“L’Age de Soleil (Pour Roby),” an etching signed and titled in the plate in Picasso’s reversed script (“Picasso Pour Roby”), consistent with the known printing history of this image via The Collector’s Guild, New York, circa 1968 (cataloged as Bloch 680 in the Picasso catalogue raisonné). “Roby” refers to French author Robert Godet, a close friend of Picasso’s — Picasso drew the original portrait as a gift for Godet, who featured it in his book L’Age de Soleil, and later gave Godet the etched plate itself with permission to print further editions.
No certificate of authenticity accompanies this piece. Attribution above is based on the signature and title etched directly into the plate and comparison to documented examples of this print (see comps from major sale houses for the same edition); it is not a claim backed by a COA or formal appraisal. Buyers are encouraged to do their own research before offerding/purchasing.
Condition: Toning, and potential mat burn, no foxing.
