Antique Oscar B. Bach Art Deco Figural Smoking Stand / Floor Ashtray, circa 1920s
Wonderful original early 20th-century smoking stand by renowned decorative metal designer Oscar B. Bach (1884–1957), New York.
This tall pedestal stand features a striking sculptural Pan / satyr / dancing faun finial, with two mythological horse or seahorse-form supports fitted as cigar/cigarette rests surrounding the ashtray area. The stand rests on a heavy decorated circular pedestal base.
Most importantly, the underside retains its applied metal Oscar B. Bach script signature plate, photographed and shown in this listing.
The clear glass bowl currently displayed with the stand is a replacement. The original period ashtray insert is no longer present and is not represented as original Oscar Bach or Steuben glass.
The metal retains an attractive untouched aged patina with oxidation, surface wear and areas of verdigris consistent with approximately a century of age. It has not been aggressively polished or refinished.
A highly decorative and uncommon example of American early-20th-century metalwork, suitable for collectors of Oscar Bach, Art Deco decorative arts, antique tobacco accessories and figural bronze work.Condition: Antique/pre-owned condition.
