Up for sale is an authentic, original WWI to WWII Canadian military badge for Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) [LdSH(RC)].
REGIMENTAL HISTORY & HERALDIC DESIGN:• Originally raised in 1900 by Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, for service in the Boer War, the Strathconas served with legendary distinction as cavalry throughout WWI on the Western Front and later as the 2nd Canadian Armoured Regiment during WWII in Italy and Northwest Europe.• Features the central shield derived from the arms of Lord Strathcona: - Top: Demi-lion rampant (Red Lion of Scotland). - Center: Railroad spike and hammer, commemorating Lord Strathcona driving the historic "Last Spike" of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1885. - Bottom: Native birchbark fur trade canoe marked "NW" (North West Company).• Surmounted by the Imperial Tudor / King's Crown over the crest ribbon reading "PERSEVERANCE", encircled by a wreath of Canadian maple leaves and the lower regimental banner: "LORD STRATHCONA'S HORSE ROYAL CANADIANS".
CONSTRUCTION & MOUNTING:• Solid die-struck stamped brass/tombac with deep high-relief detailing and natural pickled bronze service finish.• Reverse retains its two original, heavy brazed copper wire looped lugs oriented east-west for split pin or cotter pin attachment.
