Charles Werner won a Pulitzer Prize in 1939 and at the time he was the youngest to ever win this award in Editorial Cartooning. Charles Werner worked for the Chicago Sun and the Indianapolis Star and in his nearly 60-year career, Werner\'s work garnered interest from several U.S. Presidents. In 1965 Lyndon B.Johnsonrequested over a dozen original cartoons for his personal collection. Former President HarryTrumanalso requested an original cartoon from Werner for his presidential library.\"Between Scylla and Charybdis\" refers to a Greek mythological idiom meaning to be caught between two equally dangerous unpleasant alternatives where avoiding one means facing the other. This unframed sketch measures 13-1/4\" x 15-1/2\" inches. Since this sketch is vintage it does show signs of wear, handling, and corner creases.
