By this point in American History, the United States had been through the Roaring Twenties, the economy suffered the Market Crash of 1929 and then the US slid into the Great Depression. Many people lost work and were out of jobs. Cash was scarce but life continued. The Wards Catalogs were appreciated around the country for families in towns and rural areas all across the continent. This 605 page catalog was targeted to the Baltimore Maryland area. You won't find ads for large screen televisions, but you could shop for radios to follow your favorite programs and listen to news and entertainment. You could order fabric, or store bought ready made clothing for the whole family. You could get harnesses for your horses, a new wood stove for the kitchen or a pump for the well. Even if you had little cash to make purchases, you could look at the catalog, while you worked and saved to stretch your dollars to meet your needs.
