A truly unique vintage piece of postal history combining two incredible collecting categories. The front of this Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) features the British Royal Family, while the back was used and postmarked directly at the 1940 New York World's Fair.
Front of Card:
- Subject: "THE ROYAL FAMILY AT WINDSOR"
- Depicts: King George VI, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), a young Princess Elizabeth (future Queen Elizabeth II), and Princess Margaret walking the castle grounds.
Back of Card (Postal History & Content):
- Postmark: Clear "NEW YORK, N.Y. WORLD'S FAIR STATION" cancellation dated October 23, 1940.
- Postage: 1-Cent Green George Washington Stamp.
- Handwritten Message: Written from the "Swedish-American Pavilion / Three Crowns Restaurant." The sender, Margit, beautifully describes taking family members to see the World's Fair for the very first time.
