\"Neues Wilhelm Busch Album,\" a big illustrated collection of comic stories by Wilhelm Busch, the German artist and humorist best known as the creator of Max und Moritz, one of the earliest and most influential comic strip style works. This particular edition was published in Berlin/Grunewald by Verlagsanstalt Hermann Klemm, printed by G. Kreysing in Leipzig with binding by H. Fikentscher in Leipzig. The title page states it is printing number 126 to 151 thousand, so this is a later print run, likely early 1900s to 1910s based on the Fraktur typesetting and binding style.
Inside are hundreds of pages of Busch\'s pen and ink illustrated verse stories, some with color plates, including Der heilige Antonius von Padua, Hans Huckebein der Unglücksrabe, Das Pusterohr, Die kühne Müllerstochter, and many more, organized into books with a full table of contents (Inhalts Verzeichnis) at the front. There is also a mezzotint portrait of Wilhelm Busch by F. Lenbach dated 1877 with a printed facsimile signature.
The book is bound in gray paper boards with brown leather spine and corners, gilt Gothic blackletter lettering on the front cover reading \"Neues Wilhelm Busch Album.\" Measures approximately 9 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches, a large format volume, heavy and substantial.
Great piece for collectors of German literature, illustration art, cartoon and comic strip history, or Wilhelm Busch specifically.
