Original ancient Roman bronze As of Nero, Roman emperor AD 54–68.

Obverse:
Laureate head of Nero facing right, with portions of the imperial legend remaining visible.

Reverse:
Winged Victory flying left, holding a round shield inscribed SPQR; withS C in the fields. Note that the lettering is quite worn on the shield and difficult to read.

This Victory-and-SPQR shield type was struck during the later years of Nero’s reign and is a well-known Roman bronze issue.

Condition:
Ancient circulated condition with substantial wear and surface alteration. The coin has a noticeable bend/curvature to the flan. It also appears to have been cleaned at some point in the past. There is dark brown patination, scattered green verdigris/corrosion, surface roughness and areas of exposed lighter metal. Nero’s portrait remains readily recognizable, and the Victory reverse is still identifiable.
