For sale is an extraordinary artifact from the household of Emperor Napoleon III: a large silk drawstring laundry or garment bag, stamped “LINGERIE IMPÉRIALE 1867” and embroidered with a crowned red “N” denoting imperial property.
Similar in style and markings to known examples of the Emperor’s table linens and household textiles, this piece would have been part of the official imperial household inventory. These textiles were part of the Emperor’s personal table or domestic service and are rarely found today in private hands.
