Up for sale is a beautiful piece of mid-century coastal folk art: a vintage Capiz Shell and Seashell Wall Plaque featuring a beautifully detailed crane/bird motif. This stunning piece was handcrafted in the Philippines during the 1960s–1970s peak of the Hollywood Regency and Tiki design eras.
Condition Details:
• New Old Stock (NOS): This piece is still sealed in its original factory protective plastic wrap. Because it has never been unwrapped, the delicate gold-painted trim along the scalloped edges is exceptionally bright and pristine, and the backing material remains clean and free of dust.
• Important Note on Shells: Due to age, the vintage adhesive has dried, and one small accent seashell has come loose and is floating inside the plastic wrapping. Because the piece is completely sealed, the shell is not lost and is fully contained. It can easily be attached back to the base with a tiny drop of clear glue if you choose to unwrap it, or left as-is for a completely untouched display.
• Subject: Majestic crane/heron standing amidst colorful flora, including textured orange and purple shell flowers.
• Materials: Translucent, shimmering capiz shell background with various natural seashells, cowrie shells, and coral-toned accents forming the raised mosaic.
