Museum Quality Japanese Edo Lacquer Smoking Set For Sale

A museum-quality highly collectible Japanese Edo period (1800-70’s) wood lacquer smoking set featuring exquisite gold-over-lacquer decoration depicting flying cranes and various floral motifs. The set includes silver mounts and a removable copper cylinder. It features three removable drawers adorned with fine nashiji lacquer work, along with intricately crafted lacquer, engraved silver, and bronze elements.

Included is a bamboo and silver kiseru (smoking pipe) with detailed mushroom motifs, signed by the artist, as well as an iron striker.

It is in very good to excellent condition. No losses, damage, or restorations. Minor age-related wear to metal parts consistent with its age.
